In an election, you want to actually be elected. As in win. Ranting and raving and raging loudly against the left might feel good but that doesn't necessarily get you across the finish line. Taylor is clearly the best ELECTABLE conservative candidate. Republicans and MAGA should support her. Independents, centrists and moderates - loathe to support a radical from either party - should give her a close look. Lefties and Dems might even have to admit that she comes across as sane and not antagonizing. From the recent RGJ article, Taylor's top 3 priorities are: 1) Increase housing supply by reducing permitting barriers. Said in English, get the damn 15 levels of overbearing bureaucracy out of the way so that builders can rapidly build housing that's needed. 2) Protect neighborhoods and businesses by enforcing a ZERO TOLERANCE approach to unlawful homelessness. Enough already! Zero sounds like a good starting point. 3) Fiscal discipline; manage the City of Reno budget. Taylor's success running her own business gives her credibility in this regard. This all sounds good to me! Taylor's political credentials? Reno City Council member/Ward 1; Vice Mayor; Chair of the Reno Planning Commission; Chair of the Reno Housing Authority. So she's experienced and connected and has a track record of high level service. She stands a good chance of winning and actually being able to govern! The entrenched males in the GOP (Grumpy Old Patriarchs?) have been spectacularly ineffective at building any sort of a consolidated, strong opposition party. No great victories come to mind. Printing a few postcards and publishing a candidate list hardly qualifies as potent leadership. As they say "Trow de bums out!"

Right, the GOP doesn't understand that you need a broad faction to win, and if you don't win, you don't matter.

This might be a nice lady, BUT!!!

She is seen supporting this nasty in every bizarre aspect $300,000,000 (assuredly taxpayer financed) soccer (and now has added huge hotel and gambling casino) boondoggle. LOCATED IN THE WORST PLACE POSSIBLE LOCATION!! What's needed? DENIAL!!

And maybe Federal Investigations.

That diabolical support stance (unless she cancels all bogus support) cancels mayoral qualification.

IMHO

PS

At this point Marshall stands out best. Although that is not much of a compliment.... considering.

Well, we agree on the "best" two, which are Marshall and Taylor. Regarding the soccer stadium, I'm not aware of the horrid and diabolical details about which you rant. A bit of clarity and specificity there would be helpful to us fact based types. I'm not a huge soccer fan, and I wonder why we need dozens of new fields in Sparks, and I don't want to subsidize a private soccer and event venue, though I'm sure the developers will ask for and receive TIF money which is another name for an abhorrent city subsidy. We can make a long list of "political stuff we don't like" and wait like Godot for the perfect Mayoral candidate to arrive on the scene. But there is no perfect candidate. Politics is all about greed, power, ego, money, fame, fortune, arm twisting and deal making. Politicians like to dress this all up as "the hard work of public service" but let's not be naive Pollyanas. Politics is just awful. Voting is often "What's the least bad choice. Who MIGHT end up doing something good. Or who will fuck us over the least?" I'm happy to listen; state your case for Marshall.

In a city like Reno, small businesses are a big part of what keeps the community strong. From what I’ve seen, Kathleen Taylor supports that. I also appreciate what I view as a more moderate approach to issues, and that’s a big part of why she has my vote.

I did enjoy reading your article and hearing your perspectives, as always!

Sounds like wishful thinking, Mike. You’re obvious feud feud with Eddie Lorton and the worship of GOP is coloring your reports. I am so tired of people telling me who I should support. All I know is that Reno is screwed up and has been making horrible decisions regarding development and at least Eddie rings true when he talks about the city, he loves. He’s a businessman who successful and understands money unlike the rest of our incompetent city Council.

I hear your argument, but I’m curious if Lorton is so good how come this is his fourth running?

Michael Leonard's avatar

It's his 5th and last. It will end the same as the others.

I'm sorry, but describing Mr. Lorton as "successful" is pretty rich. The man's a crackpot and a failure.

There are too many rants against this soccer boondoggle to fit on the internet. It is the most diabolical scheme since.... I don't know when. [Maybe RR trench? Although that was almost a blessing in comparison to this attempted mendacious money grab]

TIF? It is disastrous theft of citizens' hard earned money. And there will be more schemes to get more of your (our) hard-earned money.

And then there is gridlock, road rage, noise, danger, etc, etc, ad infinitum... does anybody else care about where they are poaching $350,000,000 from?

Mike had an interesting Report on this POS last year: "The $35 Million (now increased to at least $350 Million) Kickoff: Reno Pro Soccer’s Stadium Gamble" (link) https://mikesrenoreport.substack.com/p/the-35-million-kickoff-reno-pro-soccers

All Lombardo's endorsement means that Turner is not a candidate I will consider !

Debra Canestrini's avatar

That is an ignorant comment. Have you even investigated or researched what Governor Lombardo has done these last 3 years? AND he managed to get things done with 2 majority dem chambers.

Please think again.

Parker Mills's avatar

Aren't you a ray of sunshine ! I do think. When Lombardo was sheriff 60 people were killed and over 400 wounded at the Manadlay Bay on his watch........his slow response cost many ! Then he would not back legislation to ban "Bump Stocks" He used that tragedy to propel him to higher office. Not getting my vote.......

Debra Canestrini's avatar

Aren’t you a dark skid mark?!?!

Lombardo was in favor of banning bump stocks….. SCOTUS said the ATF overdid its authority in banning bump stocks, they became federally legal again.

Wow ...Aren't you the witty one. Being that that this is Mike's site, I'll keep the gynecological comments to myself, you're not worth it !
