Why it matters when a candidate for Reno mayor makes a claim that cannot be reconciled with the historical record and uses it to further his political ambitions.
Frankly, when Nevadans push their generational bona fides to try to claim some local status, I am instantly turned off. I like to respond to that by pointing out that I’m a 6th generation American—before NV even became a state.
Well you have done it again. Exposed the myth. Why must a candidate lie to promote belonging. If they lie for election purposes, god forbid what they will say and do should they get elected.
His knee-jerk defensiveness would be less grating if it wasn't also so lazy. Yes, Devon, we get it: you're a dad. You live here. That's wonderful, but what does it have to do with running a city? The man may as well walk around with a flashing "APPLAUSE" sign. His lack of personal character and his perpetually-aggrieved antics give Reno's gay community a bad name, and he sure as hell does not deserve to be our mayor.
My grandparents, on both sides, came from Quebec in the late 1910s thru early 1920s, as the economy here was still better. My mother's father even fought in the US Army during WWI. I'm proud of this heritage and have issues with anyone who feels that its necessary lie about their family line.

Reese has demonstrated over time that he has neither strong character nor consistent ethical behavior. He’s simply been caught in too many situations where his words and actions are solely self-serving and/or incompetent (not even mentioning his lack of interpersonal skills). Reese is simply NOT what Reno or any other location need or want in a leadership/representative position.
Just like traffic tickets: most drivers get caught just 1-5 times out of 100 for failing to follow traffic laws. It’s frightening to consider what Reese has done and never been caught. It’s time for Reese to be removed from all Reno and Washoe County government positions forever. With his type of “public service,”who needs enemies.
Reese should drop out of the race to possibly save a shred of dignity. He’s just an embarrassment in too many ways.
Devon's mother was born in Idaho in 1947 and father (as you said) was born in California in 1934. Ohio, Colorado, Idaho and California are the states where his relatives are from.
Always surprises me people just can’t be proud of who they are. Embellishment, I’m Indian, I’m 5th generation, I’m first to graduate - just be proud of who you are, what you’ve done. If you have the need to lie about your heritage, you probably don’t like yourself much.
